He studied at the pop-jazz department of the Saratov Music School (teacher V.M. Tyurin), then at the department of folk orchestra instruments at the Volgograd Municipal Institute of Arts. P.A. Serebryakov (Prof. Frauchi A.K., Associate Professor Goloyadov V.V.). In 2002 he graduated from graduate school at the Saratov State Conservatory. L.V. Sobinov, majoring in Chamber Ensemble (Prof. Dzhegnaradze T.Z.).
Sergey Nikolaevich Matokhin has performed concerts in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, France, Spain, Germany, Poland, Israel, Egypt, Brazil and England, both as a soloist and in various chamber ensembles. Actively collaborates with the Volgograd, Astrakhan chamber orchestras, symphony orchestras of Ashdod, Beer Sheva, Netanya (Israel), Cairo Sinfonietta (Egypt), Sao Jose Dos Campos (Brazil), Saratov, Kazan, Elista, Tambov, Yaroslavl, Volgograd academic symphonies orchestras, as well as with the Volzhsky and Tambov folk instrument orchestras.
Since 1994, he has trained more than 50 laureates and diploma recipients of regional, All-Russian and international classical guitar competitions. He is a member of the jury of regional and international competitions in Moscow, Saratov, Elista, Volgograd, Belgorod, Netanya (Israel), Barcelona (Spain), Vienna (Austria), London (England), USA. Conducts master classes in Moscow, Saratov, Tambov, Volgograd, Elista, Astrakhan, Wroclaw (Poland), Kharkov (Ukraine), Jerusalem, Netanya (Israel), Pau (France), Cordoba, Barcelona (Spain), Vienna ( Austria), London (England).
In 1999, Sergey Nikolaevich Matokhin organized the international competition-festival of guitar performers "Tabula Rasa" and is its producer and art director. Regularly holds creative meetings with leading performers and composers from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Brazil, Serbia, Hungary, Canada, USA, Netherlands, Israel, Switzerland, France, Italy, Cyprus, Japan. Conducts active scientific and methodological activities.
Since 1994 he worked at the Volgograd Institute of Arts. P.A. Serebryakov at the Department of Orchestral Folk Instruments, since 2007 as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs.
Since 2010, he has been working at the Moscow School of Musical and Dramatic Art "Class-Center", and is also a professor at the Department of Orchestral Folk Instruments at the Moscow State Musical Pedagogical Institute.
